Updates!!

I’ve been neglegting my blog for a while - and the only new content has been the automated import from my twitter feed. Sorry about that!

So here’s a long overdue update on what’s new..

Gaia10 Trailer
The project I recently finished with two of my close friends from Hyper Island, Fredrik & Simon and Marius Bauer / Sublevel, has gotten a lot of nice response. It was posted on several design blogs which made us all very proud - and it was also featured on the front page Behance!

Im really happy about the way we got this one wrapped cause it was a long project and required a lot of coordination between myself and the others. Fredrik is based in Amsterdam and interning at Onesize, Simon is in London and working at ManvsMachine, Marius is in Munich and i’m in New York.

Im surprised how well we managed to collaborate using Skype and transferring (huge) project files via Dropbox. If you havnt seen it be sure to check it out on vimeo. Also we updated the Behance project to include a more detailed description and making-of frames.

Internship & moving to NYC
I’ve been living in New York for 6 weeks now. Wow. It’s been challenging and very rewarding. My internship at Digital Kitchen is going well and I am very impressed by their approach to the projects we work on.

So far i’ve mostly been working with our CD Rama Allen and creatives Bryce Wymer (check out his awesome blog), Ben Grube, Audrey Davis and Eric Chang. Eric is doing a interesting project by the way.. Output a piece of artwork every day for a year.. Follow it on his blog.

Collaborations
I’ve gotten a bunch of opportunities to do some very interesting collaborations with super talented people. Im extremely excited about this but it’s too early to share the details.. Im planning no less than five right now (!) so it will be a busy and creative summer. First one is with illustrator Jared Nickerson.

That’s it for now..

Reform Revolution

Gaia Trailer is featured on http://reformrevolution.com/ - NICE!

GAIA10 Official Trailer

The GAIA10 Trailer is finally done!! Check this collaboration I did with Marius Bauer, Fredrik Ekholm and Simon Holmedal!

Gaia curator Marius Bauer approached me with a suggestion to collaborate on making the first official trailer for the Gaia project and thus adding moving images to the Gaia project for the first time.

Teaming up with fellow Hyper Island motion designers Fredrik Ekholm and Simon Holmedal, the team created the trailer working in an online collaboration from 4 different countries based out of New York, Amsterdam, London and Munich. Musician Kevin Durante, an contributor to earlier Gaia releases, joined in to make a custom sound track - that will be released later as a full length track on the forthcoming Gaia album.

Minor update on www.steffenk.net

Updated the site to match my current location, internship and added a portrait to the about page..

Motion Test 100426

I did this is a motion test last week. I wanted to check out some options when rendering a depth map and motion vectors from C4D.

It’s based on the same technique from the Quants video with lines and a centered sphere done in collaboration with Anton Boman: vimeo.com/8150830

After posting it, I got some questions about how to do the connected lines around the main object, so I thought I should share the technique here on the blog. It’s done with Cinema4D’s MoGraph module and is not too complicated to set up. Without going too technical, the basic idea is to use a Tracer Object to connect cloned elements. If you are familiar with Cinema4D this will make sense to you hopefully. Check out the screenshot below. The objects to generate the lines are highlighted..

Also, check out the comments about motion-blur issues and improvements on it at vimeo.com/11330269
